AIP diet?

I’ve been having a lot of gastrointestinal issues alongside my newly diagnosed Hashimoto’s and am thinking its time to try to make some dietary modifications to improve my quality of life.

I was thinking of trying the AIP since it seems to be successful and I’m wondering a) if it’s helped any of you with GI issues (nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea) and b) if you have any resources! I’m feeling a little overwhelmed and would love some sort of shopping list so I know where to start!

there’s a Harvard research fellow, Dr. Datis Kharrazian whose one of the leading researchers in the country on Hashimotos whose content you might find beneficial. His YouTube and Facebook is where most of his accessible content is, and if you want to get into to nitty-gritty he offers courses (designed for healthcare practitioners) that go over the latest research and offer clinical models in treating hashimotos. He’s someone I personally benefitted from and gives some level of light in what can be a dark mystery for some of us.

I (22) was originally diagnosed with hypothyroidism about three years ago and have been taking levothyroxine ever since. My numbers have been stable and good, but I still feel a lot of symptoms (brain fog, memory loss, major depression and anxiety, heart palpitations, hair loss, and more but I can’t remember what else at the moment)

I finally got my antibodies checked and those values showed I have Hashimotos. I asked the doctor how to get rid of or at least improve symptoms. I’m about to graduate uni and this whole thing has made it so hard to do well. She said that all I can do is change my diet. She then went on to tell me that cutting out gluten and dairy helps a lot, and I need to do my own research on anti inflammatory diets.

After looking through multiple websites I just feel so overwhelmed because I am a college student (so I need to find cheap things to eat). I feel like the list is long of what I should try to eliminate from my diet. Stuff like eggs, beans, rice and oats are on the list of stuff to avoid and I honestly don’t know what I can eat... I’m just so frustrated and overwhelmed... how’d y’all tackle the food side of Hashimotos?

Can’t really offer much help, just sympathy. I’m 25, diagnosed a few months ago, but I’ve had it for 5+ years (a doctor noticed my thyroid was enlarged 5 years ago), and it definitely affected my time at uni. I’ve got all the symptoms you described too, and it truly sucks.

I’m also looking at changing my diet. I tried the aip diet for like a week, and found it too limiting. I get stressed easily with work, and last thing I need is to get stressed again because I can’t eat what I want to eat. Instead I’m going to try a reverse elimination? I’m going to slowly cut out foods until my diet matches the aip diet, starting with gluten, and then start reintroducing. It might take me longer this way, but going cold turkey on so many foods is just unrealistic for me.
